nah, CA just messing with Rome1 loyalists who keep bragging about how great Rome1 is compare to other modern total war games…
Bro the only reason a lot of people (myself included) are so hyped about RTW Remaster is the total conversion mods. I don't like the base game like at all. The historical inaccuracies break the immersion and drive me crazy. We just want Europa Barbarorum, Roma Surrectum, Tsardoms, etc to be adapted for the remaster.
That's not what a remaster means.
I’m really disappointed by this remaster, they basically added next to nothing and couldn’t even bother to fix some very easily fixable problems like the terrible path finding in siege battles, retarded AI, or just fleshing out some of the minor factions unit rosters. I’m pretty certain after a few days I’m probably never going to bother to play it again, complete waste of money, I won’t be buying medieval 2 remastered if that’s next. Compare Rome remastered to age of empires 2 DE, which reignited my love for that game and I’m still playing it regularly 2 years later. The difference is like night and day. I wouldn’t buy Rome remastered if you still own the original and you can get it to run ok on your computer, you might as well just play that instead and save some money.
I think this comes down to the old tired debate of remastered vs remake expectations. I don’t expect too too much from remasters, mostly graphical overhauls and ui modernizations. Remake though is an opportunity to change everything while staying true to the spirit of the original.
Agreed with not adding more units to those previous unplayable factions, the reason those weren't playable is very obvious. They aren't interesting enough. For example Dacia. They're the weakest versions of Gaul, Britons or the Germans, I believe they actually have less units too. But Spain on the other hand has a pretty unique unit roster. Others are just weaker uninteresting counterparts to the playable factions.
The one thing I want them to fix is the pathfinding, and the overall AI.
Its even worse than the original, especially siege battles, and for a remaster not to pay attention to this is unacceptable
It’s a remaster it’s not suppose to be a new game with new mechanics just an uplift better AI and a little fresher UI that’s the point of remaster
What they should have done is just fix the performance and leave everything else mostly alone, especially the god damned strategic UI is a mess.
Won't get this without a multiplayer campaign, so sad.

Can you PLEASE give some insight regarding the Specs of RTWR? Like the INSANE download size and ridiculous system requirements. The OG RTW download was like 5 g’s and not much more even with Gold edition downloaded. I understand the remaster will make the file bigger but 70GB?????? I’ve already pre purchased the game but at this point I’m considering not downloading with these insane specs, and I’d love for someone to shed light on it.
What did they say about multiplayer in this game? Honestly thats a deciding factor for me rn.
I never really stopped playing the original so was looking forward to some updated AI but from watching others play it, the AI looks worse! Feels a bit lazy to keep known AI bugs in the game.
You can adjust the green look of the map. I also think you are 'full of it' with saying Rome 2 is better. It is an awful game. I would say the worst in the series easily and CA has never produced games as well as they used to since. This game is for people who prefer the series when it was fresh and likable.
I am thinking of picking this up to try. I got Rome II but when I tried to use the tutorial I found it unusually hard. I'm not an exceptional gamer but I'm a longtime gamer and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Well, the game has apparently been rebalanced with new DLC's and patches etc but the tutorial hasn't been adjusted for these changes and the result is that the tutorial does not so much teach you the game as teach you to hate the game. I figured with a fresh start I might have a chance of enjoying Total War.
Anyone else noticed how RTW music videos are being actively taken down? I wonder if the release of the "remastered" version of the game has anything to do with it?
Idk why the dumb CA just remade the first game in the Rome 2 engine… they never hear us, never fucking learn, that's why the game AI is so stupid, the same dumb people still there not listening and pretending they amore .
The most important thing for me is the REMOVAL OF HARD-CAPS. Sure customers shouldn't have to reply on mods to fix games, but you could have the magnus map from rome 1 with the faction selection like two. (example germanics split into suebi, macroni, saxons, britons with into iceni etc, greeks into leagues or city-states. This game is marketed to nostalgia. With modding, this will be funner than rome 2 because you can mod in AI, factions, etc. And the old games had the ability that the new games lack, biggest being map. You can make maps of europe with africa and asia combined.
They added Medieval's unit variety so soldiers can look different in the same unit. This with enhanced graphics features will looking godly when modder's starting porting assets.
The walls and sieges have destructible assets unlike the arcadey ladder on wheels of the newer games. The old games with removed hard-coded limits will be godly mark my words.

Good complete review here. As someone who has played an untold number of hours on Rome Total War (I say untold because I do not have the steam edition since I got it back in the days of the box and disc) I agree with everything you said. It is concerning to me that they did not optimize the AI or increase roster sizes for locked factions. Overall I am slightly dissapointed by CA and may wait for a year or 2 before I purchase this (hint steam summer or winter sale haha).

Me " THE MUSIC " That song with the Roman girl singing is and always will be the most Nostalgic part of the original Rome game ! AT the end of the day nostalgia is a opinion and where you might think this others might think that so take this remaster with a grain of salt and see what happens !
14:44 Rome II is "better." Ok…strike one right there. That game is a damn potato. Oh yeah, btw…family trees and legislature, which was on Rome 1 by default…was only added years later to that game after fans constant fuming at CA.

So Feral did a Q&A on the TW discord (a few days after the posting of this video) and the AI question did in fact pop up. There were multiple questions and answers regarding AI and the changes that they made. But in short, yes they did work on improving the AI compared to the original in both campaign and battle environments. The answers from Feral can be still be found on the official TW discord.
I mean, that UI looks really nice and fluid to read. Like… I think even Activision itself could learn a thing or two of this third-party that made the remaster. Not even modern Warhammer Total War is as comfy to read the UI.

It's just an upgrade to modern computers, they're selling you the same game that has seen the largest success ever in this company's history, there's no remastering, just some minial improvements that the other two titles brought
They should have improved the ai, battles take a lot of time with the shitty ai especially in sieges
